On Saturday, 22nd
of April, 2017, Coin Consults held its first BSS at the Knowledge Platform
Centre of the Mustapha Akanbi Foundation, Agba Dam Link, GRA, Ilorin. The
programme which had twenty (20) participants in attendance was declared opened
by Dr. Akanbi Usman of Knowledge Platform. Dr Akanbi who is also a lecturer of
University of Ilorin, explained that the Knowledge Platform was opened in
memory of his late mother, Alhaja Mufa’at Akanbi to serve as a centre where
people can share knowledge and where entrepreneurship is promoted. He further
explained that series of programmes like the monthly BSS will continue being
hosted in the Platform in conjunction with Coin Consults as a partner in
knowledge sharing and entrepreneurship development. While presenting the BSS to the participants
who were made up of Entrepreneurs, Innovators, Business persons and students;
the CEO/Co-founder of Coin Consults, Mr. Mustapha Muhammed Jamiu explained that
the BSS is a segment of their CoinKwara programme which is designed to build a
community of skilled and world class entrepreneurs, innovators and investors by
recruiting them into the Coinkwara community and exposing them to 21st
century ways of conducting business through series of monthly Business Strategy
Sessions (BSS) and other programmes. He
further presented Coinkwara website, www.coinkwara.com
to the participants as the only website presently in Nigeria that is focused on
promoting locally made products and services, especially that of Kwara state.
He therefore encouraged non-Coinkwara members to also submit their locally made
products/services to the website to allow both customers and investors have
access to their products and services. He also encouraged them to visit the
website for patronizing locally made products and services of Kwara state. As
explained by another co-founder who is also the Admin/Programme Director of
Coin Consults, Mr. Hanafi Olanrewaju Rabiu; the CoinKwara BSS is unique and
first of its kind when it comes to entrepreneurship development programme in
Kwara state specifically and Nigeria as a whole. He based this assertion on the
principle that their BSS is a continuous programme that will occur monthly, the
language for training are both English and local language of the hosting
community to accommodate participants regardless of their career or level of
education and, also inclusion of ICT topics in every monthly programme to help
the participants in understanding ICT and its importance to their enterprise.
He said the vision of Coin Consults towards this BSS programme is to take it to
all Local Government Areas of Kwara state and therefore appealed for support
from Philanthropies, organizations and government to assist them in developing
entrepreneurs throughout the state.
The theme of the
programme was Road Map to Success: From SME to a World Class Entrepreneur (Part
1) and three (3) major topics were discussed to build the skills of the
participants. The topics as divided into sessions included: (1) Business
Persons and Entrepreneurs, who are they? (Difference), (2) Questions every
entrepreneur must ask, and (3) How much of the world is online?
Mr. Hanafi Olanrewaju
Rabiu delivered the topic; Business Persons and Entrepreneurs, who are they?
(Difference). Using a full participatory approach and citing relevant case
studies from within and outside Kwara State, Mr. Hanafi unequivocally proved to
the participants that an entrepreneur is different from a businessman by
highlighting five (5) key differences between them. He highlighted the differences
under headings such as creativity, origination of idea/product or something,
motive for operation, start-up capital and the quickness in making profit. He
further opened the minds of the participants on; who entrepreneurs and
businessmen are and similarities between the two people. He also explained that
both entrepreneur and businessman are both similar since an entrepreneur is also
a businessman and he intends to make profit too although by solving people’s
problems. He ended his presentation on the note that both entrepreneur and
businessman contribute to the economy of a society and they both create jobs
for people.
Mr. Mustapha Muhammed
Jamiu presented the second topic; ‘Questions every Entrepreneur must ask’. The
topic which was delivered with passion towards ensuring development of all the
participants in entrepreneurship and business, delved on three core questions
and answers that all entrepreneurs must ask. These include: (1) What kind of enterprise do I need to build? (2) What
risks and sacrifices does such enterprise demand? and (3) What strategies do I
need? He stressed the importance of strategies in achieving entrepreneurial
goals and gave three (3) core areas to examine, namely, resources,
organizational capabilities and personal resources. He highlighted the do’s and
don’ts for entrepreneurial success and ended the presentation by presenting ten
(10) inspiring quotes for entrepreneurs.
Mr. Isiaka Gafar, a Professional Counselor who is also
a board member of Coin Consults, gave a thoroughly well researched presentation
on the topic, ‘How much of the World is online?’ The main highlight of the
presentation was when he presented statistics of Nigerians being the highest number
of Multi SIM devices users in the world. He further explained that Nigeria
ranked 8th when it comes to number of internet users in the world
and according to Mr. Isiaka, this number increases daily. He explained that 42%
of the world is online and 52.4% of the internet users penetrate the internet
through mobile devices. In ending his presentation, he highlighted questions
that entrepreneurs need to ask themselves when it comes to internet.
