BUSINESS WITHOUT BOUNDARY: STEPS TO EXPORTING PRODUCTS TO THE GLOBAL MARKET

COIN CONSULTS PARTNERED WITH THE NIGERIAN EXPORT PROMOTION COUNCIL (NEPC) TO EQUIP ENTREPRENEURS WITH THE SKILLS OF DOING BUSINESS WITHOUT BOUNDARY

By organizing Business Strategy Sessions (BSS) under our Coinkwara programme, we continue to focus on our mission- “to build a community of Innovators and Entrepreneurs in Kwara who are equipped with necessary tools and skills to become world class and ensure that through collaborative efforts their products and services are well packaged and promoted across the globe”.

We have used past BSS to build the skills of entrepreneurs in areas of product development, business management, product promotion, business planning and ICT among others. Preparing our entrepreneurs to become exporters thus became the next on our training agenda and no one could facilitate this session better than the NEPC. It is based on this background that we partnered with NEPC on the 7th of April, 2018 at the Knowledge Platform, 6 Agba Dam Link Road, Ilorin, Kwara State to train 11 entrepreneurs on becoming a certified exporter. The topic of discussion was, “Business without boundary: steps to exporting products to the global market.”

The BSS opened with a welcome address given by the Coinkwara Programme Director, Mr. Hanafi Olanrewaju Rabiu. Mr. Hanafi welcomed all the participants and explained to them the importance of preparing their minds towards becoming certified exporters in the year 2018. He enjoined them to participate wholeheartedly in the BSS in order to derive all the benefits in the day’s programme.

The three hours BSS was duly facilitated by the NEPC with mr. Okhiulu Andrew as the lead facilitator and Mr. Ayinde Mosadi’ as the second facilitator.  The following were the objectives of the session as explained by Mr. Andrew:
Educate prospective exporters on the nitty-gritty of exporting
Substantiate why exporting is a tool for National development
Encourage participants to become entrepreneurs/self reliant
Avail participants with knowledge on exporting opportunities

In an interesting and educative manner, the facilitators took the participants towards the following important required knowledge on exporting:

  •     About NEPC and its strategies
  •     Importance of exporting to the economy
  •     Who an exporter is
  •       Exporting procedure
  •      Simple steps to exporting
  •    Questions and answers
  •      Assessment of participants and prize giving

For the benefit of anyone reading this post, the following are the simple steps to exporting:
·         You must be registered with NEPC
·         Source for your product/products
·         Have contact with a buyer
·         Get the pro forma invoice (an invoice sent to a new customer for payment before goods are dispatched) from the buyer

·         Contact the Regulatory Agency responsible for regulating such product
·         Get an NXP form from your bank and after completing, it is sent to the Pre-Shipment Agency: Cobalt, Neroli Tech e.t.c to inspect
·         Send all documents to Nigerian Customs Services for inspection

The last parts of the BSS were presentation of certificates and taking of group picture. The certificate of participation was presented to the participants on behalf of Coin Consults by Mr. Andrew, while Mr. Hanafi presented appreciation certificate to the two facilitators.
